Saudi Arabia Announces Suspension of King Fahd Causeway Traffic
In a statement, the King Fahd Causeway Authority described the closure as “precautionary” following alerts issued in recent hours by the National Early Warning Platform in the Eastern Province, where the bridge is located.
The National Early Warning Platform is an electronic alert system designed to notify residents of security or weather emergencies.
As of 0530GMT, officials had not provided an update on when traffic would resume.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying seven ballistic missiles aimed at the kingdom’s Eastern Province.
“Debris from the missiles fell near energy facilities, and damage assessments are underway,” the ministry said.
The region has seen escalating tensions since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
