Saudi Cabinet Approves High-Speed Electric Rail Link with Qatar
The agreement, signed earlier in December during the eighth Saudi Qatari Coordination Council meeting, outlines the implementation of a 785-kilometer (487-mile) rail line linking Riyadh and Doha. The route will pass through major stations in Al-Hofuf and Dammam and include connections to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman International Airport and Qatar’s Hamad International Airport.
Designed to operate at speeds exceeding 300 kilometers (186 miles) per hour, the rail link is expected to cut travel time between the two capitals to around two hours. The project aims to serve over 10 million passengers annually and generate more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. Completion is projected within six years.
